about

'The Jerrah EP' is the debut solo release from Blue Mountains musician Jerrah Patston.

Jerrah's 22 and started writing songs a few years ago when he began collaborating at the Club Weld studio.

He has released studio recordings from residencies at the Sydney Opera House and The Joan, but 'The Jerrah EP' marks his first release made in his favourite environment; in front of a live audience.

The EP covers a range of Jerrah's passions such as cricket (Brian Lara, Like Stumps), the Penrith weir (It's Like A Waterfall, But It's Not A Waterfall) and the everyday (Braces, The Corned Beef Song).

The recordings were made at the 2018 NOW now festival at 107 Projects in Redfern, and audience member Nick Shimmin was prompted to write the following:

"After half an hour, it's clear you're witnessing someone who taps into the essence of pop songwriting, someone with a peerless ability to communicate the sheer joy of the everyday, and someone with a sense of melody that Paul McCartney could admire. He is Jonathan Richman with an Australian accent, without the love songs but with cricket and Opal cards instead of baseball and bubble-gum."

The EP is a taste of the hyper-productive songwriter's output, with dozens of songs in contention for his next release.

Over the last few years, Jerrah has played live at the Art Gallery of NSW, the ICC and Henson Park. He also appeared on 702 Mornings to promote Club Weld's Remix The House release.
