The EP’s digital launch event at ACE Parramatta is set to be a vibrant musical celebration, marking the first time the Club Weld musicians and River City Voices choristers will meet in person and hear the finished tracks as the project was recorded remotely in successive Covid lockdowns.
“We are thrilled to present this incredible collection of songs by ACE’s Club Weld musicians and River City Voices,” said ACE Club Weld Producer Victoria Harbutt.
“Rehearsed and recorded over the course of 14 months during Sydney’s strict Covid-19 lockdowns, the project yielded an incredible 270 individual recordings from 43 choristers which were then edited and mixed down to a six track EP by Chris Hamer-Smith.”
“This massive undertaking was recorded two artists at a time in accordance with Covid physical distancing in ACE’s studio and we couldn’t be more delighted with the phenomenal end result,” she said.
The What the World Needs EP features performances by ACE Club Weld artists, including: country and new-folk musician Jerrah Patston; the romantic-pop melodies of Sienna Acquaro; expressionistic new-folk by Nina Gotsis; pop ballad extraordinaire Clare Brown; glossy electronic artist Charbel Nehme; and keyboard connoisseur Jonathan Yung.
Each song was recorded with vocals by River City Voices, headed by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Sarah Penicka-Smith who worked with Club Weld’s neurodiverse musicians to transform their original songs into scored choral arrangements.
The songs included on What The World Needs are now part of River City Voices’ permanent repertoire and will be available for download, streaming and physical CD in September.
