about
Jerrah Patston’s new single is ‘If Spring Could Sing’ - an ebullient collaboration with Kate Field and Jonathan Yung.
It is Patston’s first new music since the release of his acclaimed debut album ‘Sounds Like Rain’, and his first collaboration with Field and Yung since their work on Club Weld’s ‘Remix The House’ LP for Vivid Live in 2017.
Kate Field’s lead vocals were last heard on the brilliant, synthy ‘Rocking The TV’ (2016), and her crystalline tone is perfect for the new song.
Yung’s breezy piano elevates ‘If Spring Could Sing’ to a level which evokes The Velvet Underground’s ‘I’m Sticking With You’, Jonathan Richman’s ‘Everyday Clothes’ and 'Friends'-era Beach Boys.
The song was recorded and mixed in a couple of hours by Cat Colman at TAFE NSW Eora Centre in Redfern.
lyrics
What do people do in springtime?
In the good old breeze
What happens in the springtime?
When the rain washes in
If spring could sing
If spring could sing
Spring makes you happy
When you’re by the beach
There are musicians on the street
At that time of year
If spring could sing
If spring could sing
When you’re thinking of the springtime
(When you’re thinking of the springtime)
The sun comes out
(The sun comes out)
When you’re thinking of the springtime
(When you’re thinking of the springtime)
The sun will come out
(The sun will come out)
Where the pretty flowers grow
At a garden festival
What do people do in springtime?
(What do people do in springtime?)
In the good old breeze
(In the good old breeze)
What happens in the springtime?
(What happens in the springtime?)
When the sun comes in
(When the sun comes in)
If spring could sing
If spring could sing
If spring could sing
