about

Jerrah Patston is a musician from the Blue Mountains, and is noted for his unique, whimsical style.

His new album is ‘Going Places’, releasing to bandcamp and the streams on the 5th of May. It is a brilliant song cycle encompassing destinations such as Oberon, the Nepean River, Old Bar and the netball courts in Lapstone.

Made with collaborator Sam Worrad and producer Chris Hamer-Smith, ‘Going Places’ is no simple travelogue; Jerrah’s lyrics touch on the comforts of home, experiences of disability in the workplace and imagining ideal locations.

Jerrah released his debut album ‘Sounds Like Rain’ in 2020, and the first taste of ‘Going Places’ arrived last year with the sunny pop of ‘The Wollongong Song’.

The songs on ‘Going Places’ are set apart by inimitable observations of the everyday, beautiful harmonies and inventive percussion. Writing in Cyclic Defrost, music critic Luke Martin said “I have honestly never encountered a musician so thrilled to be performing and recording as Jerrah,” and ‘Going Places’ is full of that energy.

The album is addictive, hooky, melodic and spontaneous. Highlights include the wistful fast-food ballad ‘Drive Thru’, the exotica of ‘The Penrith Regional Gallery Song’, the infectious ‘Oberon (Nice & Cold)’ and the haunting closer ‘The Doorbell Song (Ding Dong, Ding Dong)’.

The live show for ‘Going Places’ will premiere at the Blue Mountains Theatre & Community Hub as part of Jerrah’s residency for Propel Projects.

The show will be accompanied by projected drawings by Liza Kaplan, photographs by Maja Baska, and video by Jasmin Tarasin.
